Pregnancy is a season that goes by faster than anyone expects. At Thulir Weddings, we photograph maternity sessions because we believe this period — the anticipation, the tenderness, the love between two people becoming three — deserves to be preserved just as much as a wedding day.
When to Book Your Maternity Session
The ideal time for a maternity photoshoot is between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. By this point, the bump is beautiful and prominent, but most mothers still feel comfortable and mobile enough to enjoy the session. Beyond 36 weeks, fatigue and discomfort can make longer outdoor sessions difficult.
Book your session at least 4–6 weeks in advance. Good photographers fill up quickly, and you'll also need time to plan outfits and location.
Location Options in and Around Chennai
- Home sessions: Intimate, personal, and full of the details that make your specific life feel real. Some of our most beautiful maternity photographs have been taken in couples' own homes — by a window with natural light, in a garden, or surrounded by meaningful objects.
- Garden/outdoor sessions: Lush green backgrounds, natural light, and space to move. Best in the early morning or late afternoon.
- Studio sessions: Clean backgrounds, controlled lighting, and the ability to create elegant portraits regardless of weather. Good for black-and-white work especially.
- ECR/beach: Dramatic and beautiful but requires timing (golden hour), comfort with sand, and willingness to plan around weather.

What to Wear — Practical Advice
- Flowing fabrics photograph beautifully. Silks, chiffons and loose cotton in soft, muted tones tend to work better than bright prints or busy patterns.
- A classic silk saree is always a strong choice for Tamil families — timeless and gorgeous against almost any backdrop.
- Bring 2 outfit changes — one formal, one casual or intimate. The variety gives the album depth.
- Coordinate but don't match perfectly — couples who wear complementary colours (not identical ones) photograph more naturally together.
Including Family
If you have older children, including them in part of the session adds wonderful energy and emotion to the album. We typically start with couple-only portraits and then bring children in for the second half of the session.
Grandparents, if they're local and mobile, can also create extraordinarily moving photographs — three generations together, in this moment of new beginning.
What Thulir Weddings Brings to Maternity Photography
Our approach to maternity photography is the same as our approach to weddings: patience, observation, and respect for the real emotion of the moment. We don't manufacture beautiful scenes — we watch for them, create the right conditions, and capture them when they arrive.
